There were lots of books and conversation about birthdays at our recent Storytime! We read Happy Birthday Jesse Bear by Nancy White Carlstrom, a story about Jesse's birthday party. Big Brown Bear's Birthday Surprise by David McPhail was about a birthday picnic by the river and the surprise that went floating by. In A Birthday for Bear by Bonny Becker, Bear does not like birthdays so he does not want his friend Mouse to have a party for him! Finally, Clever Jack Takes the Cake by Candace Fleming tells about a special cake for a special person and what happened to it as it was being delivered!
At craft time, we made birthday crowns from paper plates. The bottoms of the plates were cut into eight sections, then folded up for the crown's points. Crowns were decorated with coloring, stickers, stamps, and jewels. When they were finished, we had a birthday parade around the library!
Birthdays sure are fun - even when you're just reading about them!
