"Secret" Santa!

Santa Claus has been portrayed in many Christmas books and has been drawn by many artists. Can you tell which children's book illustrators drew these jolly old St. Nicks? Click on the picture to make it bigger if necessary. Leave your answers in the comment section by clicking on this post's speech bubble!

Is the last one by the illustrator of "The Bad Case of the Stripes"?Sarah

Austin and Hayden, you are correct!! Good guess, Sarah - but A Bad Case of Stripes was written and illustrated by David Shannon (He also wrote the No David! books). As far as I know, David Shannon has never illustrated a Christmas book, or drawn Santa. Keep thinking - you all know this third illustrator!!

Yay, Sarah! You're right! The third Santa is drawn by NH author/illustrator Tomie DePaola!

Three of the best, for sure! I was torn between DePaola and Englebreit on #3. It's pretty cool how recognizable the styles of so many childrens' illustrators have become! One of my favorites is Barry Moser! Check him out. I have quite a few if his books, and would be glad to share!

Mary, the Tomie DePaola Santa shown is an older one - but if you look at his most recent depictions, they're still very similar. The pom-pom on the hat is a dead give-away! Interestingly, I read somewhere that the model for the #2 Santa (Eric Carle's) actually was Barry Moser! Small world!
